Froschauer's first illustrated complete folio Bible in German appeared in 1531; as early as March 1536, in response to
a great demand, a second edition appeared in the same presentation. It is one of the most richly illustrated Bibles; 90
woodcuts are by or after Holbein. The text contains Luther's translation as far as it had then been published; the
Apocrypha was translated by Leo Jud, the Prophets by Hätzer and Dengk. (Leemann-van Elck, Die Offizin Froschauer, p. 64).
In the second edition, new woodcuts were included by the monogrammist V S. Also new are the 21 square representations
from the Apocalypse, some of which are artistically more perfect even than those of the first edition. It is assumed
that they have been drawn by Holbein himself. Sophisticated beautiful copy of this rare Bible.
