Neu-eroeffnete Hof-Kriegs- und Reit-Schul, Das ist: Grundtlicher Bericht della Cavalleria, oder von allen was zur Reuterie gehoerig und einem Cavalier davon zu wissen gebuehret... Nuremberg: Paul Lochner, 1729. Six parts in one volume. Large folio. Contemporary full calf binding.
Lipperheide TC 22. Nissen, ZBI 2542. Brunet III, 1144. Berlin Katalog 1402.
Dedicated to Karl Wilhelm Friedrich, Margrave of Brandenburg, this edition of LoehneyssΉs encyclopedia of the horse was completely revised and brought up-to-date by Valentin Trichter, exactly 120 years after the appearance of the first complete edition. The arrangement of the text here is more systematic, and hence more useful, than its Renaissance precursor.
The plates were all entirely reworked by two brothers, Andreas and Engelhard Nunzer (d. 1733), both master-engravers in Nuremberg. There are illustrations of different breeds of horses, some very attractive plates of riding scenes, tournaments, jousting, festivals, sleighs, bridles etc. The work is not only a riding-school manual, but an instructive guide for the mastery of the horse.
A beautiful copy, traces of damp on half-title, title-page backed with strong paper.
A magnificent Baroque equestrian book, preserved in fine condition.
