CONRAD MEYER (1618 Zürich 1689)

Allegorical representation with the personifications of poverty and richness. In the lower part an unfilled cartouche. Pen in brown, grey wash. 8:13, 5 cm.

A beggar woman with her child takes the hand of a well-to-do lady and a man in rags talks insistently to an elegant man. In the background the hungry are fed.

Conrad Meyer was the most important member of this painter and etcher family Meyer, who dominated Zurich in the 17th century. Interesting study for a title page.
