Cf. Müller/Radlach, 1929, 31 u. 32 / 1924.43. Colour and light are the focal point in Giovanni Giacometti's art. In the beginning,
he painted the light very bright and the colours strong and full of contrast. Later, the light in his art became warmer and the
colour succession more harmonious and more compact. The drawing behind is simple; reduced to contours and some marking lines.
Giacometti concentrated more and more on landscapes of his homeland in the Grisons: autumn, winter and evening landscapes of the
surroundings of Stampa in the Bergell valley and its mountains are at the heart of his art, like in our watercolour.
Giacometti is a major contributor to the renewal of Swiss painting in the 20th century; he created a sort of Swiss impressionism.
