One of the earliest depictions of a Great Saint Bernard dog. Sir Edwin Landseer was one of the most fashionable painters of the Victorian period. The foremost animalist painter of his generation, Edwin Landseer established the hugely popular Victorian vogue for Scottish subjects through his many pictures of highland animals and sporting scenes.
Thomas Landseer was a gifted etcher and worked closely with his famous brother engraving many of his prints.
