The subject resembles the earlier one of the Crowning of the Virgin (L. 17) with its simple and clear imagery, a demonstration of the dignity of the two central figures. Here, the Virgin Mary is raised to the divine throne next to Christ, who raises his hand in a blessing gesture. Christ - with an emperorÕs crown - refers rather to the union of Divinity. The three angels, oddly placed in the centre, between the two protagonists, are a reminder of the holy trinity. Emphasis lies on the complex, corporal robes merging together, bringing the two figures of the salvation doctrine closer to one another. This is underlined by the simplicity of the architectural elements. Very fine, strong impression. Restored area above the monogram.
