Giovanni Battista Piranesi wurde in Venedig geboren. In seinen frühen Jahren studierte er Bühnendesign und perspektivische Komposition. Mit 20 Jahren zog Piranesi nach Rom und begann dort die antiken Monumente sorgfältig zu studieren. Er begann einfallsreiche Ansichten der alten Ruinen und modernen, römischen Strukturen zu radieren. Piranesis’s fantasievolle Radierungen zeigen sein Talent für die Kombination von dramatischer Perspektive und architektonischer Phantasie. During his early years, he studied stage design and intricate systems of perspective composition. When Piranesi was twenty, he moved to Rome and began a careful study of the city’s ancient monuments. He began etching inventive views of ancient ruins and modern Roman structures. Piranesi’s imaginative prints reveal his talent for combining dramatic perspectives and architectural fantasies.
